Almost everything I've posted on my vlog (lofistl.com) is between 8 and 20mb. When I go smaller the quality suffers too much. Some things are just hard to compress well no matter how you do it. And I've noticed that most other vlogs are posting in this size range too. But then again if you keep in mind the fact that a lot of regular viewers are watching stuff via an aggregator they aren't really waiting for the download anyway--as it's been downloaded in the middle of the night or something.
My concern now is what to do about bandwidth. I might start moving some of my content off to Archive.org, because I've seen a significant up tick in popularity of my vlog and my bandwidth usage has gone from about 500mb a day to about 7gig a day and I know the big file sizes aren't helping any. I have plenty to spare for the moment (600gig a month) but I can see a day when that might not be the case. I know that this has been a problem for some audio podcasters too. I just hope that I can figure out a workable solution before it's a real problem.
