I enquired with iTunes a while back about getting some stats from them about how many people are subbed to our feed. Here's the response I got today; seems to confirm what I thought. He sent me all-new RSS specs for iTunes and I'll post these to the Files section of this group. Hope it helps someone.
"Sorry for the long delay in getting to this email. And yes, thanks for posting your content to the iTunes podcast directory. We don't share subscription information with podcasters. But it's not because we're being secretive, it's because you have better information than we do. At iTunes, we just know when the user clicks on that subscribe button. After that, the relationship is entirely between your servers and the iTunes client application on the user's computer. So you and your server are the only source for information about how many episodes have been downloaded. That's why we always recommend that podcasters build in ways to track the number of downloads. For more info, please see the attached and vastly updated spec. Regards, Pete Alcorn Apple iTunes Podcasting" Best everyone, Waz www.crashtestkitchen.com ------------------------ Yahoo!
