This is already happening with non-video iPods - well, the first part.  
I've got an iPod Shuffle and when I attach it to my computer my iTunes  
library updates how many times the songs have been played. If the videos  
are just apart of the iTunes library I bet this is being recorded for iPod  
videos as well.

However this information is not sent to Apple or any other third party.  
And it seems more than a little shady if Apple starts recording this  
information. Unless they do it in a last.fm kind of way where you have to  
opt in.
