This could be true. Hmm. I'm not working with DV, fortunately, just
the MOV files native off my Panasonic Lumix digital camera, and yes,
all my files are basic MOVs anyway. If and when I move to a more
robust setup, though, this might be an important consideration.

Good to know, but considering the MOVs I was generating were larger,
I'm still happy. A 240x180 MOV using Sorenson that I've had up was
13MB. Exporting from the original, full size video to a 320x240 MP4
("Movie to iPod") got me 9MB. Smaller file, larger frame, crisper
image... I'll take it.

Of course. Ah well. You know what? I'm going ahead and exporting my
MOVs to MP4s via the "Movie to iPod" preset. I'm posting to Blip.TV
(might as well get back into playing there while I'm at it), and
linking those in the feed for aggregators. However, if you visit the
source blog, you can watch an embedded, basic MOV file (the original,
just as it always was), and of course the poster frame is left alone,
too.

So the media in the feed is designed to favor iPods/iTunes (which is
the software that hits the feed on my site the most anyway). I'm
hoping folks without iPods/iTunes can still view them (provided they
have the latest version of Quicktime). But if you need it the old
way, it's still there on the site, like it always was.

Yeah, I know, it's two versions of the same file (reminds me of
podcasters who post MP3s, AACs, OOGs and WMVs!), and I might drop the
MOVs eventually if the MP4s work out. But for now... I'm just
thrilled to have my vlog entries work on my new iPod...

Haven't told my wife yet, but that's okay... she's got one under the tree!

I'll have to give iMovie another chance, I guess. I got so used to
plain cut-and-paste in Quicktime Pro on the PC that I actually felt
iMovie was getting in my way! Again, I'm sure that'll change when I
start working with DV, but for now, simple works. <g>
