That is probably a pretty good guess...the director or producers want you to view the credits as long as it does not take away from their story. I think feature films have made this into an artform in itself. There are many companies that are hired specifically to create a innovative and compelling opening.

It seems like the opening credits happening 10 minutes into the show
just started happening in the last few years. My guess at the time was
that it was/is an attempt to pull you into the story immediately by not
distracting you with the opening sequence and credits. (Those are my
thoughts anyway...)
