I know all too well the time required to develop vlog sites.
VlogMap.org is by far the most time consuming free project I've ever
worked on. So much so that I've been getting "podfaded" over it. I
don't think ads would be accepted very well on VlogMap or I would have
added them long ago.

Ridertech.com on the other hand has a niche viewership and has hopes
of adding sponsorship... however I do not expect this to happen
just because it has gotten popular.

Money has never been my goal. I have a job that pays already. I vlog
about snowboarding because I love to ride and can't resist the latest
and greatest in web development.

My opinion is that just because something becomes popular or has a
niche market does not mean that others will shell out cash to be a
part of it. Especially when it is very hard to see a return on your
investment. A vlog ad is hard to quantify and even harder to
calculate how many viewers decided to type the URL of the site you are
advertising.

On top of all this, most people do not understand vlogs. That alone
is a hard obstacle to overcome.

As for my acceptance of ads, I would rather see a niche ad on a niche
vlog than some random company on a random vlog. A sex-related ad on
Kitkast or a skateboarding ad on 64mm.com is very different that Acme
Products on a personal vlog. Matter of fact, I would be shocked to
see a personal vlog get advertising. Sure that my be harsh for some
to hear, but what personal blogger/podcaster/vlogger has gotten real
ad dollars?

It is hard to hear about these big pay days that personal vloggers
want. It sounds idealistic and not very realistic. They may
be able to get a few hundred dollars here or there, but the chance of
making this into a career is not likely.

When a personal site creator gets a big pay day, I'll be the first to
say I was wrong.

On a related note, do any of the big network "video podcasts" have
ads? Not that I've seen, which makes it hard to justify too.
