I have a Maxtor One Touch 300GB that I've been using for a while now. It hasn't given me any problems (knock wood). I downloaded that LaCie Silverkeeper software and do a full bootable backup to a partition on the external once a week, and I use the other partition for extra storage.

I also back up some of my files to my old 40GB iPod ... it's otherwise unused now that I've upgraded.
