Thanks for crossing the line from lurker to participant. I'm reading through your post and I feel a little ancient. I think the difference of vlogging is that of accessibility.
I remember 16mm, Super8 and heavy stand alone video tape recorders. You needed outside film processors, expensive equipment and a great deal of fortitude to keep doing it. I actually had a class that tried to teach how to cut and edit Super8 film with a razor blade. Not fun, not artistic, not creative and rubber cement on Super8 film is just sadistic. In the 21C I can show folks how to tell stories with a $19 digital camera and access to a computer. Or podcast with cassette recorder/media player or a microphone. And the mainstream media is trying to co-op what we are doing. Except that they are still using traditional programs and distributing product to media players. I don't think they get it but that is them and I leave them to static. Except for the BBC. I love what they are trying to do on many levels. Not perfect but making a good effort. Anyway There is new work being birthed and new narratives being created that can't be regurgitated. It is an exciting time.
