Right now several people living in San Francisco and surrounding area are at SxSW still. You may get more recommendations if you put the question out again in a couple of days. BTW, the Castro is one of the nicer areas of San Francisco -- gays and lesbians though of different sexual taste than me and others tend to display good taste (often with flair), quality businesses that are clean which shows in that area.
