probably similar to what technorati does
if you put some html (usually a script) on your blog then they can pull
it (or your feed perhaps, usually these are in the sidebar however) and
know you really can edit it and hence it must be yours. the html also
usually displays some logo and link to the site (veoh in this case)
for my part, i don't like the idea of have to "claim" my vlog in this
way (it does not feel optional). i'd like to know if i can remove my
feed from voeh if i claim it. still don't like having to sign up even
to do that.
