You cannot get statutory damages at all without registration - the court also cannot order the defendant to pay the legal fees. This hit independent artists way too hard, and vloggers even harder. If you don't register (and who's going to pay $20 to register each vlog entry?) then you can only sue for actual damages (*you* have to prove that you had an actual loss instead of the court setting an amount) *and* no matter what you have to cover your own legal costs.
