Id strongly recommend getting something that can do 24p or even 30p. A
nice but expensive thing that does proper progressive scan, giving
that film-like quality but not in a fake cheesy way, and also
completely eliminating hideous de-interlacing issues if you want that
lovely HD footage to end up being watched on computers rather than
interlaced TV displays. 

I heard that the Sony HDR-FX7 or HVR-V1 are rather interesting, not
looked at US prices though, and obviously may have quirks or spec that
doesnt suit you.

The file format may confuse if your normal HD workflow isnt to capture
to raw m2t, or you havent tried doing things with HD camera footage on
cmputer yet.

PS. Oops I jsut went looking for prices and those probably blow your
budget but maybe its flexible :) Hoeres a comparison chart of
differences between the FX7 and the HVR-V1U, hmm maybe only the V1U
does proper progressive, Ive been overwhelmed by specs, brainconfused:
