Two things to look at: (1) are you running the latest version? lots  
of enhancements have been made, especially in terms of disk caching  
and other performance tweaks, and (2) do you have at least 2 GB in  
the machine? I suggest you give Parallels 512M, leaving 1.5G for Mac  
OS, which is a good split. I've been running Cleaner XP under Windows/ 
Parallels while editing in Final Cut Pro and I find the performance  
to be pretty good, in fact, better than having  Compressor running in  
the background all on the same OS!
