Bill, the problem with re-installing an older version of QuickTime (which does solve the problem) is that if you want to use iTunes you can't seem to separate the two. If you have an older version of QT, iTunes no longer works. If you upgrade to the latest iTunes, it comes bundled with the latest version of QT. (Also, it took me a very long time to even find where I could get an older version of QT)
The solution to my problem with QT is to set .mov files to open in Firefox rather than in QT. Remember the good old days when you could actually ask a real person who worked with the software for suggestions on how to solve the problem? Now if it's not covered in the FAQs, you're up a creek. -Bev On 12/30/06, Bill Cammack <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > --- In [email protected] <videoblogging%40yahoogroups.com>, > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > > hey all, > > > > my name's carlos pareja and i'm a recent subscriber to this video > blogging > > group. i'm fairly new at video blogging but have been doing community > > media for years with the paper tiger tv video collective, deep dish tv, > > and indymedia. currently i'm working with bcat, brooklyn's public access > > tv station in their education department. i've recently facilitated a > > video blogging workshop with community producers at bcat using what i > > learned from mnn (public access for the borough of manhattan), freevlog > > and the "secrets of videoblogging" book by ryanne & michael. thank you > all > > for the expert advice and encouraging words as i think some of you on > this > > list are folks who schooled me. > > > > anyway, i'm glad to be a part of a group where i can learn from the > > experiences of folks who are building an alternative, more participatory > > media. i hope to continue passing along this under-the-counter media to > > brooklynites too often regulated by consuming images. > > > > my first ask to this group is a technical one about quicktime. i have > this > > tiny flash video recorder, a dxg 506v, i bought for about $100 that > shoots > > 320x240 & 640 x 480 video. this cam can create .mov, .avi, and .asf > files. > > i've been mostly shooting .mov files which worked with the > > quicktime player i used to have but after upgrading to a more recent > > version, 7.1.3, these .mov files now show up as a white or black screen > > with audio but no video. does this mean i have to buy quicktime pro now > in > > order to see these files? or does this have something to do with the > > codec? the movie info for these files shows formats like: Apple MPEG4 > > Decompressor, 640 x 480, Millions > > Microsoft ADPCM, Mono, 44.100 kHz FPS: 30. > > the quicktime file formats that my player can read are: AAC, Mono, > 44.100 > > kHz Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 640 x 480, Millions, FPS: 14.97 & 29.97 > > any help accessing these files would be most appreciated. > > > > thanks! > > carlos > > Welcome, Carlos. :) > > A lot of people have mentioned upgrading quicktime and programs becoming > incompatible.... even iTunes.
