Hey guys,

For the postroll ads people have to watch the entire video to see the
ad, then click on the ad to make you any money. Until recently, this
had to happen on blip.tv itself. We're now serving some ads off-site,
and more every day. By next week we should be showing ads on the vast
majority of off-site views. But, still, they're going to have to watch
the entire video and then click on the ad.

We're gradually introducing a new ad partner which pays on a CPM basis,
meaning you get paid for people seeing the ad, not clicking on it.
These ads have launched on some of the videos we serve already, and
we're planning to launch for users of the blip.tv blend's postroll
option on Friday. This should make a pretty big difference, and they're
good advertisers.

Still, you've got the problem of postroll ads, which are only seen by a
small percentage of viewers of your video, since they come all the way
at the end. That's why we're working with a bunch of companies to offer
different ad formats that split the difference between the annoyance of
preroll and the potentially low pay that comes with postroll ads. We're
working on a suite of "midroll" ads that show up while you're watching
the video for a few seconds, then go away.

We're also launching a new version of our advertising statistics panel
today, which should make tracking advertising revenue much easier.
WE'll show you the total you've earned to date, along with individual
performance per-day and per-video. Between that, the enhancements in
off-site viewing and new ad partners and formats we're launching, we're
very confident that network-wide advertising on blip is going to improve
mammothly over the next couple months.

We've made some people somewhat significant money through the
network-wide advertising, but these tend to be people doing a huge
number of views on relatively short videos. We're dedicated to making
sure that everyone can earn some money, regardless of the length of
video or number of views that you get.

Yours,

Mike
