Probably too early to worry about WPF/E yet. Assuming some people
actually install the plugin once its released in a non-beta version,
WPF/E should make it quite easy to add hyperlinks etc to wmv files.

Well to put it more accurately, wpf/e is to wmv what a flash player is
to a flv file. WPF/E wont actually change your wmv file at all, it can
just wrap round it in the browser instead of using the windows media
browser plugin. So thats pretty much the same as how a swf file is
used to play a flv video. The link magic will happen in the WPF/E or
swf, rather than the wmv or flv video.

Where it will be easier than flash is that wpf/e files are xml so its
easy to manually create/edit them or generate them via a server
script, as they are just text. It should therefore be rather easy for
thousands of different wpf/e video players to appear and be shared and
changed by people, although the actual functionality available isnt as
rich as flash, it should serve the purposes being discussed on this
thread quite well, for people using wmv format videos. The only big
issue is whether this stuff catches on, it is another thing users have
to download, and its also only really useful in the browser, so its
not going to be a good link solution for users who watch your videos
in an offline aggregator.

Darn, now that Ive managed to get my hands on a nokia N95 (yippee), Im
having to look at all these format issues again, because its so ideal
downloading stuff straight to the phone via wifi, but only a few
formats will work well that way. At this stage I guess I shoudlnt hold
out much hope that theres any hyperlink-in-video solution that will
work on that mobile platform?

Cheers
