If you want to record HD, you probably need to record the original signal from each end. So both LA and NYC need to record their own camera. http://www.livestream.com/ is a nice live stream service that gives you "studio" controls. You can choose you shows up on screen and bring in multiple people. Ryanne and I recently did a live event using Justin TV, whihc allows you to use QT Broadcaster.
