Hi Lori, Not certain if our setup is relevant to your context or useful for budgetary purposes as it is relatively free, but here it goes:
For advanced media booking we use a combination of the webform mentioned below, email process below, and the ILS (Aleph) booking module. Here is the webform for media: http://www.lib.umn.edu/media/advance.phtml For advanced equipment booking, over the past year, we have been using a combination of a webform (php script that emails myself, our Learning Commons operations manager, and our student staff at the front desks who enter the data - send confirmation) and a Google Calendar system where we have created a calendar for each resource. Patrons fill out the webform and we then capture that data and request date as an event. Each piece of equipment has a barcode, and it is circulated through our ILS like any other. This system has worked very well for us. I would be happy to share more details offline to anyone interested. Here is our webform for equipment: http://smart.umn.edu/equipmentreservationform.html BTW: We don't use the ILS booking module for equipment, because media booking is generally restricted to faculty/instructors, the booking module is setup to generate a pull report 3 days in advance as we are an open-stacks collection, and the equipment loans have quick turnover so a head/tail time would be detrimental. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
