Hi David
I agree with everyone so far, but I would like to share my own experience.
I worked for a large county library district (19 branches) for 3 years as
Media Selector/Purchaser. I have only an MLS and came upon the position
quite by accident. I had actually applied for other positions in the county
and gotten rejected. When they created the new position, I was called out
of the blue and asked to apply. For some reason, the HR person thought I
would be a good fit. My situation was probably unique, but I find now that
I am very qualified for other media librarian positions, even ones in
academic libraries (I have applied for several and been called as a
potential candidate). Sounds like you have a great chance. Oh, and make
sure you WORK while you're getting your MLS-- that is the most important
factor in landing a job post-graduation.

The lack of jobs in the library field is discouraging, but as someone who
received her MLS 6 years ago, I have never had problems finding a job. If
you are enthusiastic and willing to start at the bottom, you will be just
fine!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
