We loan, since we borrow! Our lending is limited to academic institutions.

We review all requests for the following criteria, which we do not loan:

1. Regular or heavy use for classes.
2. Titles for which we are rare on OCLC (>5), although we will
negotiate access for scholars.
3. License or purchase limits loaning.

If a title is > $200, we ask that the borrower insure delivery/shipping.

We do assume that many will be overdue; we lend for 3 weeks. We
occasionally have to recall items.

Recently, about 5% DVD's are returned with either damage to the case or
cracked disks due to damage in shipping. We have also had 2 damaged
video cases within the last year. <This reminds me of the old Samsonite
commercial with apes throwing luggage!> We ship in rigid cardboard
wrap, but many institutions return them in flimsy envelopes!

Reminder to ALA guidelines:

VRT Guidelines for the ILL of AV Formats:

ILL Packaging and Wrapping: >

Despite the problems, we borrow more than we lend, so it is worth while
from our patrons point of view!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
