VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of
issues relating to the selection, evaluation,
acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current
and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It
is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for
video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between
libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy of the film, "La Grande
Guerra/The Great War" (Monicelli, 1959) with English subtitles on DVD?
I've found a VHS copy at Facets, but that's the only version I've found
with English subtitles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Karen

Not been released in the US. You might try the UK or see if a copy
released
in Italy has English titles. It would be in PAL format but I assume most
folks have multi-system players these days.
Keep in mind when GATT came into effect many titles which had been out
on
VHS could not make it to DVD as they were no longer legal. I don't know
if
that is the case here but there was a lot of stuff out on VHS that was
not
coming from the rights holder and GATT changed that.
