It has been 15 years or more since I went to one and I am not a librarian but alas I am cynical it would be of much value. Basically panels on a wide variety of film studies topics ( some of which I found comical in terms of value) but very little related to library issues. In fact what I remember most when I did go was that there were two panels ( among others) at the same time. One was on Karen Finley the performance artist most famous for smearing her nude body with chocolate and one on how to access rare archival resources featuring some noted film archivists and a guy who went into amusing detail about trying to access archival material from Disney. The Finley session had over 100 people busting out the door, the archival session had about 8 people. I know it was a LONG time ago but I remain very cynical on SCMS re what I would think of as librarian issues.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
