Hi Lori,
For our media collection of dvds, we catalog each disc, create separate cases,
and photocopy (b&w or color) the cover art for the additional cases. Each case
has an individual barcode so checkout is simple.
Thank you, Patti

Subject: [Videolib] multi-disc sets and open stacks

For those of you out there with browsing collections where the discs are kept
behind a circ desk and the cases are out for browsing: How do you handle
check-out of multi-disc sets? Do you create generic cases (and barcode) for
each individual DVD or CD in a set, or do you shelve the original packaging
with one barcode for the entire set? If you break the set into separate cases,
how do you handle the cover art/content information and labeling?
Thanks.

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
