Hi all -
Here is the most recent ticket I received from FoD relating to
Blackboard. I haven't had a chance to revisit since this summer when
they notified us:
"There has been a incompatibility issue which has arisen in regards to
embedding Films On Demand videos within the recently updated version
of the Blackboard LMS. This issue has be diagnosed as being caused by
Blackboard replacing single quotations(') in the Films On Demand embed
codes with the "'" alphanumeric characters after the posted embed
code has been submitted to post within the Blackboard LMS environment.
You may verify this by choosing to edit a Films On Demand video which
has already been submitted to post and appear within the Blackboard
LMS.
The replacement of single quotations(') causes our server to not
correctly recognize the code when the code is initiated back to our
system so that the embedded video will appear. Our mutual customers of
Blackboard have contacted Blackboard about the issue but we have yet
to receive any updates.
The provided embed codes are universal in format and structure thus
you may test the functionality of the embed codes, to verify the
compatibility issue within the LMS environments, by posting the embed
codes on a standard HTML page outside of the LMS environment.
Please note that the Javascript coding listed in the Standard Embed
code is accepted by Blackboard but it is not accepted by Canvas based
on recent information which has been provided to us by our mutual
customers.
Essentially you may use the Standard Embed Code to embed videos into
the Blackboard LMS, once the compatibility issue has been resolved by
Blackboard, but you will need to use the "Alternate Embed Code" to
embed videos into the Canvas LMS environment."
Maybe if enough of our institutions let Blackboard know, this will get resolved?
Hope that helps!

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
