I don't automatically purchase all Criterion released. I buy everything requested for the Film faculty and then wait to order until I see how much is left in the budget towards end of fiscal year.
That said, I encourage you to look at Kanopy's patron-driven acquisitions model for streaming video. Criterion collection is included.
