Hello Anna (et. al.),
I do not automatically purchase newly released Criterion Collection
editions of films if there's another version in my library's
collection. If the film is a high-use title or if I have a specific
request for it, I will purchase the Criterion. If we don't have the
film on disc, I'm very likely to purchase the Criterion. If I do order
a Criterion title that duplicates a DVD already held in our collection,
I'll often purchase the Blu-ray instead of the standard definition for
extra 'value added'. The patrons who are most interested in the
in-depth extras and visual quality Criterion offers are also those who
are most likely to have a Blu-ray player.
Hope this helps,
--

Soooo....my standing order for all Criterion Collection films has been
cut, as has my film budget. Now I'm faced with the quandary: should I
continue to purchase all CC films to acquire the remastered prints and
bonus features, even if we already have an older DVD version in our
collection? Any thoughts on pros and cons? I'm hesitant to order a
duplicate film even if it has been remastered (we have a film minor
program but not major) as I have to cut spending somewhere....
Thanks for your insight!
