Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the bug survives after renaming the file to 'file.tar'; I also tried 'zorglub'. It also survives if I use plain Message mode (C-x m). It does not survive if I am at home and send the file using VM but take the mailo smtp server (mail.mailo.com) instead of my university server (partage.unistra.fr). It does not survive either if I send the file using the webmail (GUI) of the university... Anyway, I guess the bug report at https://gitlab.com/emacs-vm/vm (Mark Diekhans) is no longer in order?
