Does anyone know why VM v.8.3.2 installed via elpa, on ubuntu 24.04 creates endless *vm-workbuf*<n> buffers? I have about 450 when I start up VM, and I now have 2921 of them after having let VM run for a while. Most annoying, I can't kill those buffers. Admittedly my INBOX is large (750 messages, 350MB); but why do these buffers stay around?

I'm seeing another problem which may or may not be related (?) When I compose a message from VM ("m") and then send it, the message is sent but I am then unable to kill the buffer. In fact, if I hit "m" from VM, and then immediately try to kill the "mail to ..." buffer, I can't. Replying works similarly.
