No! External links are fine. Your web site is one that I had in mind when I worded what it says on http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Vim_Tips_Wiki:Create_a_new_tip "any link on a tip should be to a well-known page of interest to Vim users" We had a case where someone proposed a tip to a personal blog. Examining the blog showed that it had many pages that were totally unrelated to Vim or to the kind of programming topics that Vimmers are often interested in. It was just a personal blog where the author happened to write one brief tip on Vim. The proposed tip here was just a link to the brief tip on the blog. I think we resolved that by having the author copy the content to the tip here, with no link to the blog. Links to well-known pages of interest to Vim users are WELCOME! Your web site definitely is one of those, and there is no reason to avoid linking to it. At http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Vim_Tips_Wiki:New_tips/200805 I tried to say that my only problem is with tips that RELY on an external site (where the tip is almost content free). I observed that while we have quite a few old tips that should be pruned, we're trying to maintain a reasonable standard before accepting new tips. IMHO any new tip should have substantive content (it might be very simple, so long as it's at least substantive for a new user).
