I can confirm something like this. Usually if I select some text anywhere (in any application), then open gvim, open a file, I can paste the original selection right into it. But not so with .tex-files. When those are opened, the copy-paste-buffer is overwritten with the content of the file. So when it’s a new .tex file a single empty line would be pasted.
