Yes, this is intended behavior of newer versions of the latex-suite. Vim
is not able to distinguish between, e.g., <alt-i> and é (see :help
map-alt-keys). Therefore, these alt-mappings are disabled by default,
see :help altkey-mappings. Note that the online help reflect the state
of version 1.9.0 of latex-suite and this settings has changes since then.
