I don't think 'completeopt' applies in this case.  The manual says 
the 'completeopt' applies to insert mode completion; completing the 
word after :help is command-line completion.

Nevertheless, my 'completeopt' setting is the default 
"menu,preview".  I tried adding "longest", but this had no effect on 
the completion of ":help termi".

This behavior might be affected by 'wildmode'.  Mine is set to 
"longest,list".  I also tried "longest,list:longest", but the 
behavior was the same.
