I see %z here if I check-out the lastest version from CVS (revision 1.8 of vim7/src/po/sv.po): "PO-Revision-Date: 2007-05-09 14:52%z\n" Looking at the history, the %z was somehow introduced in latest revision 1.8 (commited in CVS on 2007/05/10). It was not there in revision 1.7.
