The git package currently available with openSUSE 11.1 is 1.6.0
(1.6.0.2-6.10.i586 from the DVD image or 1.6.0.2-6.12.1.i586 from the
11.1 online-update service). I didn't install it, but that's what YaST
shows me in the "Software => Software Management" page.

openSUSE 10.3 and 11.0 have come and gone since 10.2 (11.0 and maybe
10.3 are still supported); the current public release is 11.1, available
from http://software.opensuse.org/. See also
http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD about how to install it
without bothering to burn a CD or DVD, if you have a disk partition
which can contain the ISO image and won't be formatted during
installation. (Normally, for an upgrade, no partitions need to be
formatted anyway; but if you have a spare partition somewhere it's even
better.)

Best regards,
Tony.
