Line highlighting is determined by json specifying filename/path and column/line range to highlight.

Vim does not support independent background highlighting; one must "simulate" the effect by duplicating the highlighting commands with highlighting linked to have the desired background.

As an example, consider the two attached files.

gvim junk
:so backg.vim

This file will highlight "one" and "two" with different backgrounds if they're between and including lines 5-10.
