Well, depending on what will we or Bram can agree on, it's not 
necessarily about cleaning up some repository metadata, so that working 
with it, will be easier. (Look at the ugly commit messages from the git 
log output) That might as well include a change in the commit workflow, 
but only if Bram agrees that there is a problem, that he would like to 
see fixed as well.

And I would certainly like to see some of the points mentioned by Markus 
addressed. I also appreciate the suggestion to create a script, that can 
do this cleanup mostly automatic. That could be run against the snapshot 
repository@github so that we can see, that it works and what the results 
would look like. (I don't feel competent enough to do that myself)
