Try using this:   :term script bash
(or whatever your shell is called).

Then do "ls" or something and exit.  Then the "bash" file should contain
exactly what was sent from the shell to the terminal.

For me, there is no special character after the prompt, just "ls<0d>",
perhaps for you there is.
