I have to second this. I thought maybe I was doing something in my vimrc, so I disabled everything. I can easily open a file split open a netrw directory listing (local), start browsing, and it starts closing the other files. It used to work like a champ, in this way. I'm tempted and considering digging up vim 7.3 and seeing if that solves my issues.
