Shouldn't pasting work better since newer Vim has bracketed paste mode support? I use mouse generally because it gives me better copy-n-paste support (e.g. without line numbers nor linewraps). It works only with an X connection though, but bracketed paste mode works as long as your terminal and Vim support it.
