What benefits of the GUI version do you need? I only ask because with a good terminal program like iterm it is possible to have 256 colour themes that look nice and mouse support through ssh. I notice little difference between a local macvim window and vim in an ssh terminal (obviously macvim is a bit nicer, window management is easier and so on).
