OMG - Who started this!? The question is not "which is better?", but "what is sensible?". If local custom is to bottom-post, then that is the most sensible for everyone. Of course the "which is better?" question is one of those religious issues that people will never agree on. AFAIK all regular contributors here use the "bottom post" style. Until three or four weeks ago, the vast majority of casual posters did the same, either from preference or politeness. It's recently (last couple of weeks, I think) that anarchy has broken out.
