As Ben said, that's correct. My guess is that there are some registry settings that are interfering. I would use Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Then find TXT and delete it (same for LOG). Then repeat your commands. Another experiment would be to do the above with some bogus extension (instead of ".txt", use ".xyz").
