Solution (?) to selection bug Vim tip #38 - 4 new
-------------------------------------------------
Hello all, As someone stated on October 13, 2006, there is a bug when using
Vim tip #38. When moving around text in 'wrap' mode using the cursor keys like
described in tip #38, you do not get out of select mode when pressing the up/
down-arrows. I think I kind of solved this problem, but want to let someone
look at it before posting it to the Wiki. - Fri, Jan 11 2008 3:37 am

E521: Number required: &diff = '' [bug in vim] - 4 new
------------------------------------------------------
Around about 09/01/08 13:06, Neil Bird typed ... ... OK, I think I've pinned
it down, and it looks like it's a legitimate bug in vim: quickfix.c:ex_copen()
set_option_value((char_u *)"diff", 0L, (char_u *)"", OPT_LOCAL); That value
should be NULL not "" like the "swf" before it. Now, I am running a fairly old
vim (Fedora's not kept it up to date), but - Fri, Jan 11 2008 3:55 am

Hi, Ben! * Ben Schmidt <[email protected] > [2008-01-11 12:09]: ...
Yes, that did the trick, thanks a lot! I still have the problem that the first
error message is printed along with the make output, so the cursor moves to
the first error, but the error is not displayed in the command line since it
has been printed - Fri, Jan 11 2008 5:22 am

Hi, ...Nice! ...Forgetting "call" bites me all the time. Yes, the ';' is a
habit, I guess. Ben and Jürgen, thanks for the tips. It now works marvelous! -

...This is GCC specific. ...Let me be pedantic too :-). "//" is not only valid

Replacing odd characters. - 2 new
---------------------------------
On a regular basis I convert pdf files to text before further processing. In
the process characters such as smart quotes, apostrophes etc. get converted to
non-printing characters which in turn are represented by very strange strings
in Gvim. Actually most of these items are two bytes. For example - Fri, Jan 11

How to get "gf" functionality w/o gf? - 3 new
---------------------------------------------
Hello, I'm using rails.vim and grep.vim, and when I run :Rgrep, I get a list
of files in a new window. I would like to put my cursor on a file, and type "
gf", but rails.vim has gf mapped to a custom function that doesn't open the
file correctly. How can I get the original "gf" functionality mapped to
another key? - Fri, Jan 11 2008 6:06 pm

Cut Current Line and Write to New File - 2 new
----------------------------------------------
I know that ":.w myfile" will write the current line to a new file, but what I
want is to write the current line to a new file AND cut it from the current
file at the same time. I have searched help and the Vim wiki but cannot find
any single command to do this. Does anyone know how to do this with one
command? Thanks in advance. - Fri, Jan 11 2008 7:13 pm

THANKS - 2 new
--------------
I have just successfully installed Vim (gVim.71) on my new laptop (Vista).
Thanks for the help from O'Reilly. Mechelynck , Schmidt, etc. Embarrassingly,
I found that my Vimfiles folder consisted of empty folders. An uninstall and a
new install seems to have solved the problem! - Fri, Jan 11 2008 7:41 pm
