I wasn't going to pipe in on this, but since it seems to be such a huge topic
of importance...

Just FYI, the BlackBerry does not allow bottom posting. The device sends the
new content only (and doesn't allow modification of the original content) and
the BlackBerry Server re-fetches the original email from the server and appends
it to the new message before delivery. This is done to save bandwidth and there
is nothing that can be done about it from the user's or administrator's
perspective. And...

... I send on this list using a BlackBerry.

Looking over the stats for all-time post quantities (well at
least since shifting to GoogleGroups[1], though I suspect for the
most part the trend holds) and some of the general helpfulness of
those folks we have the following folks explicitly supporting
inline bottom-posting:

  Tony Mecelynck
  John Beckett
  Dr. Chip
  Bram Moolenaar
  Bill Lam
  and myself

Several of the other big names on that top-posters list haven't
explicitly expressed a preference in this thread, but show a long
history of using the preferred inline bottom-posting:

  Ben Fritz
  Gary Johnson
  Andreas Politz

So the moral of the story is:

- if you want help from the most prolific & helpful authors on
the list, your chances are much more likely if you adhere to the
group conventions

- if you top-post and are lucky enough to get a reply, it will
likely include an admonition to adhere to inline bottom-posting
policies. You might even get pointers on how to configure your
mail client to be more helpful. However,
control[+shift]+[home/end] to navigate/manipulate large swaths of
text isn't a terribly difficult. Learn them; use them. Or use a
mailer into which you can integrate Vim.

- if you repeatedly top-post despite such admonitions, you may
get plonked and find yourself without the assistance of core
members of the group

Just my contribution of support to those who also encourage
making the list more readable.
