Well, personally I prefer bottom-posting; but if I happened to wander
onto a newsgroup where top-posting were the (official) norm, I would
top-post like everyone (or, more likely, zap away), because as someone
said: top-posting may be bad, but mixed top- and bottom-posting is
outright awful.
Since this list has a published policy of bottom-posting and of snipping
away irrelevant text, I believe that it is worthwhile to (gently) remind
offenders that that's the list policy, and that it isn't going to change
just because they believe top-posting is better, not even if they loudly
say so with what look to them like irrefutable arguments (some of which
amount to laziness in my eyes, e.g., "Why should I have to do anything
else than Outlook Express's default behaviour?").
John, I admire your dedication. Mostly I don't bother to point out
netiquette offences, though now and then I may reorder a top-posted
message (in the part quoted in a reply) in order to avoid mixing top-
and bottom-posting, which is really worst of the worst; or I may snip
away the whole quote under a top-posted message, which is simpler.
Best regards,
Tony.
