Linda, first of all, I *personally* prefer HTML emails where
formatting is important, and prefer top-posting in many situations. I
say this because one will often find me gently reminding users of this
list to use neither.

There are many advantages to HTML vs. plaintext, and there are simply
situations where top-posting is more appropriate, but these advantages
and situations rarely apply here. I can see the argument for your RFC,
but consider:

* The google groups interface (by default at least) displays messages
in plain text on google groups. I cannot in 5 minutes find a way to
enable html emails, and that's too long to trouble about
* Many users of Vim not only prefer plain text, but also are very
opinionated about it for some reason or another
* Many users of Vim will also use text-only tools for checking/sending
email

but most importantly:
* The customs and procedures of this list have been established for
some time, and willfully going against them without treading VERY
lightly is generally considered rude. Willfully disregarding policy is
NOT the way to get it changed.

With this in mind, I make certain that, despite my own opinions, I
keep to the list policies. I also try to remind others to do the same,
because otherwise half the time, the thread degenerates into something
like this.

You had a valid point that deserves discussion in your original email,
but regardless of the reasons, that point has been lost.

So, is it possible for everyone to stop discussing HTML vs. plaintext
in this thread and get back to the original point? Bill Lam has
helpfully posted a plaintext version of the HTML email for those that
can't stand the HTML or can't read it due to limitations of their
chosen reader (or google groups). Choose a font that supports the
glyphs he used and let's get back to Vim please.
