This only will happen if I use Google Chrome. I copied the same text
using Firefox and everything worked fine.

I'm not sure what the final upshot was (if there are items
missing from that thread or I missed something in reading it, or
whether there really was no resolution) but Raúl had a similar
issue isolated to Chrome-content-pasted-into-vim.
