I recommend using gvim, and choosing some appropriate 'guifont'. Here is
part of an HTML page of mine which includes both straight and italic
Cyrillic (Russian) text, and also some Latin-script (French) text:
in gvim with 'guifont' set to Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:
