If you have at least version 7.4.848* then you can make a list of the number "1" as long as you want it, then select the list in visual mode (you may need visual-block-mode, i.e. by pressing CTRL-V or CTRL-Q). Finally, press g followed by CTRL-A to automatically form an increasing list. For example, enter the following text: 1. 1. 1. 1. 1. Place the cursor on the second line, and type CTRL-V to enter visual block mode. Highlight down to the final line.
