You need not limit yourself to 4 GB drives.

You can use 1, 2, 4 and 9 GB drives and then partition it into  
whatever you need.

Drive Setup supports a maximum of 8 partitions, but up to 40  
partitions are possible, but are not recommended because of  
performance considerations.

Initializers/partitioners other than Apple's are OK, too, but FWB HD  
Toolkit is not a good example. There are others. Try HD SpeedTools.
